July 15, 2009-Welcome to Japan! Today we arrive at Narita Airport and already we have a welcome party. Japan definitely has a different feel and sense of service. It started on the plane. We flew on JAL airlines from Honolulu, Hawaii. Throughout the flight there was nothing but great customer service. The flight staff actually had genuine smiles and were very friendly. They continuously offered hot towels, beverages, etc. The meals were served hot with little heating packs to keep it warm while you eat. I found this fascinating. When it was time to sleep, they lowered the lights in the cabin and even put all the shades down with this stick tool. I have never experienced such service and was quite impressed. After arriving in Japan, I observed that the atmosphere in the airport alone was different in a good way. Everything was clean, simple, and tranquil. There was soft music playing and no loud noises or talking. I would say it was zen-like compared to the chaos back home. I walk off the plane and see this "Welcome to Japan!" sign. Already there is a sense of their culture. We took a airport limousine to Shinagawa where are hotel is at. It took about two hours. There were lots of buildings and concrete. I'm not sure about most of the view because I fell asleep for most of the ride.
